In Russian Federation, a series of regulations are effective pertaining to the nuclear facilities located on its territory. These regulations set the framework for announcement of an emergency, on- line transmission of information, assistance and measures to protect the public in the case of a radiation accident. The main document regulating the activity of FEERC is Federal Law on Hydrometeorological Service. The mentioned documents provide if a nuclear emergency occurs that Federal Service of Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Roshydromet) will be actively involved in post-accidental activities and will be assigned to provide results of analysis and prediction of radioactivity dispersion in the environment including a transboundary transport. In this context, Roshydromet has established a specialized centre for providing on-line and prognostic information on radiation emergencies on the territory of Russian Federation - Federal Environmental Emergency Response Centre (FEERC). The Centre is based in Scientific Production Association "Typhoon" in Obninsk. FEERC is designed to provide information support to activities related to mitigation of consequences of nuclear accidents. The Centre closely collaborates with the organizations designated to respond to emergencies in rules and regulations of Russia.
